Supporting operators during the challenging winter months

Although we are still yet to see any sign of snow, this time of year is challenging for bus operators as daylight hours are reduced, temperatures drop significantly and driving conditions become more hazardous.

Across the UK, vehicles are often exposed to extreme conditions, which can make things hard on your fleet. The addition of ice, snow and freezing weather to an already strained bus can lead to tyre slippage, engine trouble and bodywork issues. Winter operations can expose the weaknesses in a vehicle fleet, so Imperial Engineering advocates having a year-round maintenance plan that can be easily adjusted to make the cold months easier.

The regular inspection of certain systems is obviously mandatory for operators, including brakes, tyres and glazing but heating and defrosting units should be inspected thoroughly and consistently, along with hoses, fan belts and electrical wiring. Batteries should be kept fully charged and warm and fuel tanks kept as full as possible to keep condensation from forming on the tank walls. It’s also good practice to install new wiper blades at the beginning of winter.

Helping bus and coach operators reduce downtime costs, whilst maintaining service efficiency has been a core focus of Imperial Engineering for over half a century and we remain fully prepared to support customers during the winter months.

When it comes to OE parts and components, Imperial Engineering is one of the leading distributors serving the UK bus and coach sector.
